The fuel injection system uses sensors to monitor air pressure, internal and external temperatures, and fuel requirements, allowing the control unit to continuously calculate the perfect fuel supply and ignition timing. This intelligent system eliminates the need for a start position and ensures the saw delivers optimum performance under all operating conditions, whether in hot summer weather, cold winter air, or at varying altitudes. A manual fuel pump and decompression valve make starting the MS 500i even easier, while the electronic management system guarantees reliable behaviour across all workloads.
 
Thanks to its high-torque 5.0 kW engine, the MS 500i accelerates rapidly, providing immediate cutting performance when working in large timber. The innovative magnesium piston and carefully optimised design keep the saw lightweight without compromising strength, allowing you to work with maximum efficiency. The optimised sprocket cover aids chip ejection, makes de-limbing easier, and reduces energy loss, while the redesigned bumper spikes give a firmer bite into wood for precise control when felling or cutting to length.
 
Comfort and durability are also central to the MS 500i’s design. The STIHL anti-vibration system minimises strain on muscles and joints during long working sessions, while the HD2 filter with pre-separation routing keeps even fine dust away from the engine for extended service life and longer cleaning intervals. The compensator system ensures consistent engine performance even as the air filter becomes dirty, reducing maintenance needs further.
 
Everyday handling is made simple with side-mounted chain tensioning, captive nuts on the sprocket cover, and tool-free bayonet fuel and oil caps. The STIHL Ematic system with controlled-delivery oil pump ensures efficient chain lubrication, reducing oil consumption by up to 50%, while still allowing extra flow for longer bars or demanding conditions when needed.
